Learn to Save Money Without Missing It

Learn to save money before including it in your spendable income. This includes bonuses, tax refunds, pay raises, extra change, and even rebates.
Over the years I have had to be creative in saving money. Trying to raise three small children with a husband whose job required transferring every couple of years, it was tough to stay anywhere long enough to get beyond the moving expenses. Even though his company paid to move us from one city to another, there were always expenses associated with selling the old house and fixing up the new one.
I learned a few ways to save without really missing it beause I found ways to save money I never got used to having. Here's how you can do it, too:
1. Establish a savings account. Today's savings accounts don't earn much money, and you might think that it's not worth having, but it is a good practice to get used to putting something away each payday and not living off of everything you bring home. As your balances increase, you may consider investing the funds in something that might earn you more money, but for now, just get in the practice of saving.
2. Don't use change. I don't carry much cash in my purse anyway, but I never carry change. The coins that I receive after making a purchase are thrown into a pocket in my purse and when I get home, I throw them into a piggy bank. About every three months I'll dump the coins out on the table and roll them in coin wrappers. It's amazing to me that I rarely have less than $25. It's money I never missed, so I hate putting it right back into my wallet. Instead, I exchange it at the bank for bills and put it into my emergency backpack. For those of you who don't know what an emergency backpack is, it contains essentials I might need for 72 hours if I had to leave my house in a hurry. It is always good to have at least a small amount of cash when plastic may not work.
3. Remember that bonuses and tax returns shouldn't be used for "catching up." Most of us spend all year and then depend on the extra money to help get us out of financial trouble. Have you ever had a year when the boss didn't come through with the bonus? A year when you had to PAY taxes? Then you know how devastating that can be when you have overspent all year.
We used to have our credit cards charged to the max! Each year my husband would get a bonus, or a profit sharing distribution, and we would pay the credit cards off, vowing to never get in that shape again! Because we had so much debt, there wasn't much spendable income, so as you might imagine, we used the credit cards and maxxed them out again. We finally got smart and made a commitment we would not use credit cards except for purchases we knew we could pay off each month. This meant no big ticket items, and we estimated that we could afford no more than $500 each month for the credit card payment. Ten years ago we were able to pay the cards off, and I'm thrilled to say that we have been successful with our goal. It feels so good to write that check for the total balance due every month and not have to pay any interest expenses.
3. Hide the raise! About 15 years ago I changed jobs and got a good raise along with it. I had been able to live on the salary I was making, so I decided to sign up for an automatic deposit to my savings account each payday. Instead of finding things I could buy with this extra $500 a month, I was socking it away into my savings. Funny thing was that we never missed it because it was never a part of our spendable income. It helped me feel secure because I knew if we did have an emergency, at least we had the funds available.
4. Save money from rebates. Sometimes we get checks in the mail as rebates from items we've bought. They may or may not amount to much money, but you've already paid for the item. Just take the rebate and stash it in your special account.
In order to accomplish your goal of saving money, you have to be committed to it. Decide now that you will live on your spendable income and put the rest away. You'll be surprised at the peace of mind you will feel when you start paying yourself.

Engagement ringajay pats
This article briefly summerizes symbolic value of engagement ring.
He Can't Afford a Diamond So What's the Poor Guy to Do? A young man recently asked me a question that really got my attention. He wanted to "pop the question" but couldn't afford a diamond. Nonetheless, he wanted to mark the moment with a ring and asked about buying an imitation CZ or "synthetic moissanite," the new diamond imitation that "fools diamond testers."
Well, it may fool some, but it will never fool her. Nor should you even try. For all you men out there facing the same dilemma, take heart. Today there are many romantic-and affordable-alternatives with which to create that special moment.
First, the most important thing about an engagement ring is its symbolism. The ring itself is meant to symbolize something beautiful, rare, and precious-like the love the couple hopes to share for life. It doesn't have to be costly, and it doesn't have to be a diamond ring (just take a look at the royal family-the Queen Mother, Queen Elizabeth, Princess Anne and Princess Diana received sapphire engagement rings, and Princess Sarah Ferguson, a ruby). It simply has to show thoughtfulness and caring, and incorporate appropriate symbolism for the particular couple.
For example, there are many colored gemstones that have historical associations to love. Red stones symbolize the heart, and thus, passion and a zest for life. With red, one instantly thinks of ruby, but the same symbolism can be conveyed very inexpensively with red garnet, or with a little larger budget, red tourmaline, or for a little more, red spinel. All natural gemstones, and all beautiful. We can find similar choices for green (which symbolizes "faithfulness and "continuity") where choices include not only emerald, but green garnet or green tourmaline; for blue (which symbolizes "spirituality" and "purity") in addition to sapphire we have blue spinel, iolite, and blue tourmaline. You might also combine whatever stone you choose with a small diamond on each side, thereby completing the ring with the symbolism of diamond, which, because of its unrivaled hardness was believed to be "indestructible." And lets not forget the gem that has been associated with love and with the wedding itself longer than all others, the pearl; one might seek a "natural" pearl in an antique or heirloom piece.
There is also a tradition of using a birthstone in the ring-hers or his-something connected to the couple in a very personal way, perhaps also combined with diamonds and their symbolism.
So whatever the budget, whatever the message, there are beautiful, rare, symbolic and precious choices. Just as you've found the "real thing" in your bride-to-be, go for the "real thing" in the ring you select. Golden globe award 2003ajay pats
This article briefly summerizes fahion trends at golden globe award
I thought for sure that the fashions at this Golden Globes would be far more risky and daring. After the somber award shows of 2002out of respect for the September 11th attacksI thought everyone would want to break out a little this year and show some life. The Golden Globes is the awards show where you are allowed to be a litte outrageous and not get judged on it unless you happen to walk past Joan Rivers, but that can't be helped. It looked like the ladies of Hollywood weren't taking any chances this time around. The fashion was there, but the zaniness and originality was in short supply. Take a look at my breakdown of the 2003 Golden Globes fashions and decide for yourself. The Right Wings of Fashion
Conservatism was the theme of the night as most of the stars wore black. Renee Zellweger, Jennifer Garner, Diane Lane, and Uma Thurman all wore simple and classic designs from Valentino, Dior, Ralph Lauren and Donna Karan. Even Jennifer Aniston, who hobbled in right before the show started (her foot was in a cast), was attired in a snappy black suit with an equally snappy black cane. These ladies looked lovely, but their choices were a bit more Oscar worthy than what is usually worn at the Golden Globes. The only actress who had the best excuse in the world to wear black was Catherine Zeta-Jones who is pregnant with her second child. It makes sense that since Catherine is up for an Oscar nomination for playing the sultry Velma Kelly in Chicago she still wants to glam it up without drawing attention to her mid-section. Nicole Kidman didnt wear black, but she still didnt show off her usual fashion prowess with her gray Yves Saint Laurent gown. It had a hint of daring with the flamenco style skirt, but the color was not very inspiring. Had the color been a bright yellow, a deep purple or a flaming red it really would have been a sensation. The Ladies in Red
This is my favorite color so I tend to show favoritism towards anyone who wears it and what a color it is! It is eye-catching, exotic, erotic and any other word that describes visual excitement. No matter where you are if you are wearing this color you will be noticed. I noticed it on four great ladies: Lisa Kudrow, Kim Cattrall, Susan Sarandon and Selma Hayek. Each dress was designed beautifully and each actress wore their dress with a great deal of confidence. They looked good, they stood out and they drew attention to themselves which is exactly what you are supposed to do at these award shows. I give these ladies a great deal of credit for daring to wear red and loving every minute of it.
She Came Out of Left Field
The only person who stood out (from behind Chers shadow) was Lara Flynn Boyle in her tutu costume with strapped up heels. I was shocked when I first saw her in this dress, but the more I looked at it the less it bothered me. The powdery pink material had a kind of hideous beauty to it. The strapped up pink heels showed off her pale skin and thin calves. Her black hair matched perfectly with the silk pink bow tied on top of her head. Her expression had a hint of a smile to it, as if she was daring someone to challenge her fashion choice. Where was Joan Rivers then, I ask you? Where? Maybe Lara was going for the nasty prima donna look. They can now call her The Bad Girl in the Pink Tutu. I dont know too many men who fantasize about tarty ballerinas, but maybe Ms. Boyle has opened up a whole new fetish. My only complaint is that she should have had the dress taken in a few inches at the bust. I hate it when a dress droops at the top for lack of cleavage. All in all, Lara took a chance, and if she was aiming to bemuse and surprise both the audience and the critics then I think she accomplished her goal.
Those Who Tried Something A Little Different
Cameron Diaz in her black mid-thigh Chanel dress with a lace top was a nice change from the monotony of long gowns. Cate Blanchette, one of my favorite actresses, wore what has been dubbed the mosaic dress designed by Valentino. The flowery pattern is a difficult one to wear, but it worked especially well with her pale skin and sleek blonde hair.
The Ones I Havent Quite Figure Out Yet
I am crazy about Debra Messings hair, but I am not so sure about her dress for the Golden Globes. A white Vera Wang creation with a frilly halter top and a long chiffon skirt with a sequined belt. I dont like frills very much, but she has the right body to pull this look off. Im just going to file this one under E for experimenting. Also, experimenting is Kate Hudson in a multi-colored Valentino bohemian dress that is along the same lines of Cate Blanchettes dress, but these colors are much brighter and wilder. Kate is another person who has the body and personality to make this work. The pattern is a bit much, but her fashion choice kept to the theme of the Golden Globes being more hip and more relaxed than other award shows.
There you have it, a new year has begun and the awards season is just beginning. Even though the Golden Globe fashions weren't as exciting as I'd hoped, I know that we are just getting started. There are still SAG, the Oscars and a mulitude of award shows to go. Hopefully, as winter turns into spring, the season and the fashions will be hotter as we go along.
